Attend this session ready to be actively engaged in activities aligned with SHAPE America’s National Standards & Grade-Level Outcomes. Discover fun and easy methods to promote best practices and high quality physical education utilizing a free curriculum resource (OPENphysed.org). OPEN lessons incorporate content language, depth of knowledge questioning, and strategies for academic rigor.
Disc Games: Fun and Skills
Activity based fun standards-based ultimate Frisbee lessons, including fitness, assessments, practice with a purpose drills and teaching games for understanding. Fitness and fun combined in one! Ready to use activities for large groups and assessments. Participants will take away information, which can be put into action immediately as well as to be offered ongoing assistance after the convention. 5-12.
Sport Education: A Teaching Model That Never Grows Old
Would you like to be able to improve class behavior and attendance, make students responsible for their own learning, and add peer, self and teacher assessments to your curriculum? The Sport Education model can do this as well as include all National Standards. Activities will be used to show these assessments and Sport Education in action. Follow up on the workshop with Sport Education Seasons and personal assistance. Use this model immediately in fitness, lifetime or team activities grades 5-12.
Badminton Bonanza (Large Groups)
As physical educators, we all want students to be active outside of school and for a lifetime. Badminton drills and fitness, activities are used to integrate large numbers into your program. Different types of rackets and shuttles may be used to modify for all needs. Grades 5-12 students will enjoy these fun games on the Badminton court at school or at home. National standards and progressions are utilized as we perform Badminton drills/skills/assessments and fitness activities as we integrate large numbers into your program. Physical literacy and technology will be discussed in this session. Follow-up/assistance will be provided after the session.
Implementing Formative Assessments in Your Physical Education Program
Fitness activities, sports and games are used to implement assessments into your daily physical education program. Formative assessments do not have to be difficult for teachers and students alike. Join us to find some easy solutions to this common problem. (Choose the activity best for your situation) Basketball, Ultimate Frisbee, Football, Speedball, Badminton will be used to show how simple it is to add assessments and assist in meeting the standards and student learning. This is not technology based but will discuss how assessments may be performed using i-pads. Grades 6-12
Coaching/Teaching Success 101
They want me to teach and coach? Come join State Championship Tennis Coach and National 2013 Teacher of the Year in a discussion session on such topics as dealing with parents, media, time management and motivation for athletes. How can we be a successful coach and not slack off on teaching responsibilities.
